During the past two years, Vietnamese football fans and reporters have become familiar with the sight of a Japanese freelance photojournalist standing on the pitches in Viet Nam, taking photos of local footballers and supporting them.

They have also been impressed with her draw-ings of Viet Nam's U19 national football team in Chibi, or super deformed style, on a Facebook fan page named: "Manga: Vietnamese football and Japanese football".

On Facebook: Hata drew four Vietnamese footballers in Chibi style after the Olympic Viet Nam football team deafeated Iran 4-1 at the qualifying round of the Asian Games 2014 in South Korea.

Seeing what she has done to show her love for Vietnamese footie, people are surprised to find out that Megumi Hata was born and grew up in Tokyo, Japan.

Hata, 32, now writes articles and draws Chibi pictures for Japanese football newspaper El Golazo, football magazine Soccer ai and the official mobile site of Japan League Division 1 professional football club Kashiwa Reysol.

In Japan, she knew nothing about Vietnamese football except for top striker Le Cong Vinh when he played for J-League Division 2 side Consadole Sapporo on loan in 2013.

Her love for Vietnamese football started when she watched a friendly between Becamex Binh Duong and Kawasaki Frontale in the southern province of Binh Duong on a business trip in 2013.

She felt the passion Vietnamese people have for the beautiful game, and enjoyed the experience.

In 2014, she made frequent flights from Tokyo to Ha Noi to watch V-League matches.

"My favourite team is the men's U19 team. I watched most of their matches last year.

"There are talented players in Viet Nam, and they always play full of spirit and energy. My love for Vietnamese football has become stronger thanks to them."

Last July, Hata flew from Tokyo to Osaka to support Viet Nam's U19 team in their one-month training course.

To show her love, she gave them a drawing of the squad with her best wishes in Vietnamese, which was translated by a friend.

Hata tries not to miss any Vietnamese matches. Last September, she went to Ha Noi to support the U19 team at the ASEAN Football Federation Nutifood U19 Cup 2014.

Tu Minh Chien, who works for Vietnamplus online newspaper, has met the Japanese journalist several times while covering football tournaments in Viet Nam.

"My first impression of Hata was her friendliness and her great love for the U19 players, trained by Hoang Anh Gia Lai-Arsenal JMG Academy. My second was her drawing skills. She can draw anytime and anywhere, as long as she finds something interesting," he said. "She loves Vietnamese football and the local people."

From March 27-31, Hata went to Malaysia to watch all three matches of Viet Nam's U23s which seven of the U19s played in, at the AFC U23 Championship qualifiers.

Although Japan's U23s also participated at the tournament in Malaysia, she said her main reason for going was to watch the Vietnamese squad in action.

"I usually support my country. That is a natural thing for me. I am Japanese, and I love Japan, but in another way, I love Viet Nam too. I always support Vietnamese football. I cannot choose because I love both Viet Nam and Japan," she said.

"Japan were not strong 20 years ago but we have been working with good coaches from other countries. Japanese footballers and coaches have been studying and training hard to increase their skills and physical strength. Thanks to this, we have been to the World Cup five times."

"I think Vietnamese players have great passion, learn fast and work very hard. They are good at attacking but weak in defence and off the ball," Hata said.

On Facebook: Hata gave her drawing of footballers to U19 team as a present during their one-month training course in Osaka, Japan last July.

Impressed by her love for Vietnamese football, Tran Van Minh, deputy director of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Sports Company, invited her to go to Pleiku to visit the academy in Gia Lai on the opening of V-League 2015.

"Although Hata is not a professional sports journalist, the way Viet Nam's U19 team plays has sparked something in her and her love for Vietnamese football," he said.

In her free time, she likes to draw Vietnamese footballers in Chibi style as a way to show her love for them.

Her drawings are posted on her Facebook page and have gained many "likes" from Vietnamese fans.

She is now studying Vietnamese in the hope of one day moving to the country.

About 3,000 valuable objects of Vietnamese traditional medicine are on display at a unique museum at 41, Hoang Du Khuong Street, District 10 in HCM City.

The museum, called the Viet Nam Museum of Traditional Medicine or FITO Museum, is run by the Fito Pharma Medicine Ltd Company. The exhibition area covers 600sqm in 24 rooms on five storeys. The upper storey has a room for the worship of two forefathers of Vietnamese medicine, Tue Tinh (1330-?) and Le Huu Trac (1720 - 1791). A model of an ancient medicine house has been displayed at the museum, along with recipes, tools for making herbal medicines, herbal containers and some 2,500-year-old objects.

Foreign tourists act as herbalists and patients at the museum.

The museum also has a collection of wood carvings of 100 physicians who lived between the 12th and the 20th centuries. There is a collection of old books on traditional medicine in Han and nom (Vietnamese ideographic characters transcribed from Chinese characters), written by various noted physicians.

Besides being able to see how traditional medicine is made by curators, tourists can act as herbalists to feel the pulse of ‘patients', who are also visitors.

As part of the ongoing Inter-Parliamentary Union's 132nd General Assembly, a city tour around Ha Noi and a visit to the Viet Nam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Dong Mo were organised for participants and their relatives.

The participants also enjoyed a stage performance named "Colours of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups" introducing a number of traditional arts. Viet Nam News took the opportunity to ask some of the international guests about their impressions of Viet Nam.

A dance production honouring the determination of Vietnamese people in their fight for independence and freedom will premiere in HCM City to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Sai Gon's Liberation and Renunciation Day, April 30.

Entitled To Quoc (Motherland), the script was written by People's Artist Ha The Dung – president of the HCM City Association of Dancing Artists, and will be staged by 40 young dancers from the HCM City Dance School.

Choreographers Luong Xuan Thanh and Ta Thuy Chi have choreographed the four-part production.

"It is not simple to express patriotic spirit through dance," Thanh said.

"We had to think about how to maintain suitable rhythm for each part of the production because the dance shouldn't present the boiling patriotic spirit all the time, it also needs some emotional scenes," he said.

Choreographer Chi, who started to study dance in Guangdong, China when she was 12 years old, said the Motherland was "a production of brave people", who dared to create a dance on a limited budget.

Scriptwriter Dung, who is also the choreography consultant, had to use all his savings for this production.

To save on expenses, the dancers even purchased materials from a wholesale market to create their own props.

To stage the suite, the young dancers of the HCM City Dance School has sweated to practice five hours everyday.

"We are not sure if Motherland will be our most successful production. We just know that we have given everything to it," she said.

According to Dung, both choreographers and the dancers were born after the war and were unfamiliar with terms such as revolution and fighting.

"However, by staging a historically-themed production, they have somehow absorbed the nation's glorious history. We hope out students at the HCM City Dance School will also learn about history through other productions," he said.

The Motherland, which is the first commercial production by the HCM City Dance School, will be staged at 8pm on March 20 and 21 at the Military Theatre, 140 Cong Hoa Street, Tan Binh District. Ticket price ranges from VND250,000 to 400,000. For more information, call 0908866700.

Nearly 180 new book titles of Vietnamese and international authors will be released in March as part of Thang 3 Sach Tre (March Youth Book Programme).

The highlights are the recently published novel Bay Buoc Toi Mua He (Seven Steps to Summer) by best-selling writer Nguyen Nhat Anh titled, and Dong Tam Long (Counting Love) by Ca Mau-based author Nguyen Ngoc Tu, who writes about Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta's people and life.

Viet Nam's veteran diplomat Ton Nu Thi Ninh presents her autobiography titled Tu Duy va Chia Se (Thoughts and Sharing) consisting of 46 articles and interviews on her activities in different fields such as politics and education.

Talks with three writers will also be organised in HCM City and Can Tho City.

New titles of children books include a set of eight books based on Vietnamese fairy tales by writer Nguyen Huong, and Chuyen Ke Cho Be (Stories for Children).

Apart from works by local writers, the latest novels by international authors like J. K. Rowling and Colleen McCullough will be featured.

Nguyen Minh Nhut, director of the publishing house, said the Tre Publishing House worked hard last year to release hundreds of new books, and 250 reprinted editions of famous local and foreign writers to audiences.

As part of the programme, the publishing house will also offer a 10 per cent discount on all its published titles at bookstores nationwide.

City hosts Ao Dai Festival 2015

The Charming Ao Dai contest will attract women aged 15 to 35 who will demonstrate their music and dance skills while wearing ao dai.

The final night will be held on March 8 to celebrate international Women' Day. Finalists will wear designs from top fashion designers such as Si Hoang, Vo Viet Chung and Thuan Viet.

The contest is one of many cultural and art activities of the annual Ao Dai Festival, organised by the city's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

This year, the festival's theme is "HCM City-The city of ao dai", aiming to honour and promote traditional cultural values as well as the beauty and grace of the ao dai, which has become the symbol of feminine beauty in Viet Nam.

More than 40 garment and textile companies and fashion houses have signed to join the two-day festival.

Ao dai collections for the workplace as well as ceremonies and festivals will be displayed. Designs of different periods will be worn by top models on the catwalk.

A contest on designing ao dai and a photo exhibition on women in ao dai will also be held.

Last year, the festival attracted more than 50,000 foreign and local visitors.

Woman's Day event to support young girls

A fundraising event to support young girls will be held at Saigon Outcast on Woman's Day (March 8). The event will feature speeches on women's issues, workshops on yoga and zumba, live dance and music performances by dancers Emily Navarra and Anh Pham, DJs Starchild and Will Henly, and bands The Magic Pinions, Cat Pylon and James & the Van der Beeks.

There will be games for children, quizes, and a raffle. All proceeds from the event will go to The Little Rose Shelter in District 7, a local non-governmental organisation to help young girls who are survivors of, or at risk for, abuse and trafficking in Viet Nam.

The event will take place from 11am-11 pm at 188/1 Nguyen Van Huong Street in District 2.

(ICTPress) - Ban Tổ chức cuộc thi Vô địch TOEFL Junior 2014 dành cho học sinh Trung học cơ sở THCS và Vô địch TOEFL Primary 2014 dành cho học sinh tiểu học đã vinh danh và trao giải cho các thí sinh và trường xuất sắc trong cuộc thi tại khu vực Hà Nội.

Cuộc thi Vô địch TOEFL Junior (TOEFL Junior Challenge) và Vô địch TOEFL Primary (TOEFL Primary Challenge) là hai cuộc thi tiếng Anh đầu tiên ở Việt Nam sử dụng đồng thời các bài thi quốc tế chuyên biệt của ETS để đánh giá thí sinh. Trong đó, thước đo đánh giá tại Vòng 2 của TOEFL Junior Challenge 2014 là bài thi TOEFL Junior, còn tại Vòng 2 TOEFL Primary Challenge 2014 tại Hà Nội là bài thiTOEFL Primary cấp độ 2.

Được nghiên cứu và biên soạn bởi Viện Khảo thí Giáo dục Hoa Kỳ, TOEFL Primary và TOEFL Junior là hai bài thi chuẩn quốc tế phản ánh khách quan và chính xác mức độ thành thạo tiếng Anh của học sinh lứa tuổi tiểu học và trung học cơ sở, ở 2 phương diện học thuật và xã hội. 2 bài thi là các bước nối tiếp từ thấp đến cao trong chuỗi các bài thi của Hệ thống đánh giá TOEFL, vì vậy các bài thi này được coi là thước đo cho sự tiến bộ của học sinh trong quá trình trau dồi và phát triển các kỹ năng theo thời gian, theo các tiêu chí nhất quán, liên thông và xuyên suốt qua các cấp học.

TOEFL Junior 2014 Challenge 2014

Cuộc thi Vô địch TOEFL Junior 2014 diễn ra tại 14 tỉnh thành trên cả nước, gồm: Hà Nội, Đà Nẵng, Thừa Thiên Huế, Khánh Hòa, TP. HCM, Bình Phước, Bình Dương, Đồng Tháp, Tây Ninh, Long An, Tiền Giang, Cần Thơ, Đồng Nai và An Giang.

Sau khi phát động, cuộc thi đã thu hút được 39.340 đơn đăng ký tham dự, tăng 87% so với số lượng thí sinh đăng ký năm 2013, tới từ 677 trường THCS. Riêng tại khu vực Hà Nội, số thí sinh đăng ký dự thi là 5.645 thí sinh (tăng 85.9% so với số lượng dự thi năm 2013) đến từ 123 trường. Tại Vòng chung kết (VCK), Hà Nội góp mặt với 51 em (chiếm 14,5% tổng số thí sinh của Vòng VCK toàn quốc). Thử thách để sàng lọc các gương mặt xuất sắc nhất tại VCK TOEFL Junior Challenge là bài thi TPO (TOEFL Practice Online) - mô tả chính xác bài thi TOEFL iBT danh tiếng.

Mùa giải năm nay, danh hiệu Vô địch quốc gia TOEFL Junior 2014 đồng hạng thuộc về hai thí sinh của TP. HCM do cùng đạt mức điểm cao nhất 115/120 điểm TPO. TP. HCM còn đoạt 2/3 Giải Nhì Quốc gia và 3/5 Giải Ba Quốc gia. Các Giải thưởng Quốc gia mà Hà Nội giành được gồm có:

Giải Nhì Quốc gia đồng thời là Giải Nhất khu vực Hà Nội: Bùi Minh Hiền, học sinh lớp 7 Trường THCS Cầu Giấy với thành tích 111/120 điểm.

Ngoài các quà tặng hấp dẫn cùng giấy khen của Ban Tổ chức, các thí sinh đoạt giải tại Hà Nội cũng nhận được phần thưởng là các học bổng khóa học Tiếng Anh tại Language Link Việt Nam– Nhà tài trợ Học bổng khu vực Hà Nội. TOEFL Primary Challenge 2014

Năm 2014, Cuộc thi Vô địch TOEFL Primary (TOEFL Primary Challenge) lần đầu tiên được tổ chức tại Việt Nam và phát động tới học sinh tiểu học từ lớp 3-5 trên toàn quốc. Với sự phối hợp tổ chức và tham gia tích cực của các Sở Giáo dục và Đào tạo địa phương, cuộc thi đã thu hút được gần 25.200 học sinh giỏi tiếng Anh đến từ 880 trường tiểu học tại 12 tỉnh thành phố, bao gồm: Hà Nội, Nam Định, Ninh Bình (Miền Bắc), Đà Nẵng, Thừa Thiên Huế (Miền Trung), TPHCM, Vĩnh Long, Tiền Giang, Đồng Tháp, Tây Ninh, Bà Rịa Vũng Tàu và Long An (Miền Nam).

 Trong tổng số thí sinh dự VCK của Hà Nội có tới 29,3% đạt trình độ B2 theo Khung tham chiếu chung châu Âu (tương đương Bậc 4 Khung Năng lực Ngoại ngữ Quốc gia 6 bậc của Việt Nam), 62,1% đạt trình độ B1 (tương đương Bậc 3 Khung NLNN Việt Nam) và 8,6% đạt trình độ A2 (tương đương Bậc 2 Khung NLNN Việt Nam). Kết quả này của học sinh tiểu học Hà Nội rất đáng tự hào vì B1 chính là yêu cầu của Bộ Giáo dục và Đào tạo về chuẩn đầu ra cho sinh viên đại học và cao đẳng không chuyên ngữ sau khi tốt nghiệp theo Đề án Ngoại ngữ Quốc gia 2020, và A2 là chuẩn đầu ra về ngoại ngữ cho học sinh tốt nghiệp bậc THCS theo Quyết định số 1400/QĐ-TTg của Thủ tướng Chính phủ.

Trong cuộc thi năm nay, Hà Nội có 2 Giải Nhất đồng hạng được trao cho 2 thí sinh cùng đạt thành tích 895/900 điểm – điểm gần tuyệt đối của bài thi TOEFL Junior. Đó là Vũ Phạm Hiền Anh, học sinh lớp 5 Trường Nguyễn Siêu, Quận Cầu Giấy và Elizabeth Phạm Ngô Hoàng Lan, học sinh lớp 5 Trường Phổ thông Liên cấp Wellspring - Quận Long Biên.

Ngoài ra toàn bộ các thí sinh đã tham gia thi Vòng 2 và Vòng 3 cuộc thi đều nhận được phiếu điểm TOEFL Primary và TOEFL Junior quốc tế do Viện Khảo thí Giáo dục Hoa Kỳ cấp và có giá trị trên toàn cầu.

Đánh giá về 2 cuộc thi, Ông Nguyễn Trọng Hoàn, Phó Vụ trưởng Vụ Giáo dục Trung học, Bộ Giáo dục và Đào tạo cho biết: “TOEFL Junior Challenge và TOEFL Primary Challenge đáp ứng đúng tiêu chí mà Bộ Giáo dục và Đào tạo đề ra đối với các sân chơi trí tuệ cho học sinh, đó là thí sinh tham dự trên tinh thần hoàn toàn tự nguyện, không thành lập đội tuyển, không áp lực thành tích, không luyện thi theo kiểu bắt buộc… Bộ hy vọng hai cuộc thi được tổ chức thường niên sẽ tiếp cận tới ngày càng nhiều học sinh khu vực Hà Nội nói riêng và học sinh cả nước nói chung, mang đến cho các em cơ hội tận dụng lợi ích của các bài thi tiếng Anh quốc tế, xác định được năng lực sử dụng tiếng Anh của các em so với thang đo chung của thế giới, và lấy đó làm cơ sở nỗ lực học tập và rèn luyện, nâng cao trình độ tiếng Anh để mở cánh cửa rộng lớn của tri thức nhân loại và hội nhập quốc tế”.

Hai cuộc thi do IIG Việt Nam – Đại diện chính thức và duy nhất của Viện Khảo thí Giáo dục Hoa Kỳ (ETS) tại Việt Nam phối hợp với các Sở Giáo dục và Đào tạo tỉnh thành phố trên cả nước tổ chức.

Nineteen of the latest oil paintings by Vietnamese artist Dương Thùy Dương will be displayed at the French Institute in Ha Noi from February 27.

The exhibition, entitled Nhin qua cửa sổ (Looking through the window), will give the public a chance to understand better the profound thoughts of a young artist and a young mother.

"I love the mornings, after my children go school, when I stay at home alone. With a hot coffee in my hand, I listen to the magical and melancholic melodies of Rachmaninov, and look through the window. It has a large frame and through it, I can see the endless green space full of summer sunshine, the falling leaves of autumn, the grey and sad days of winter, and the fragile beauty of spring," Dương confided.

"I love sitting down like this, thinking and thinking. Nothing is important, just simple thoughts of a normal person, a normal woman and a normal mother."

"When the coffee becomes cold, the music stops and the four seasons pass…I begin to paint," she said.

Born in 1979 in Hà Nội, Dương studied painting at the Viet Nam Fine Arts College from 1998 to 2000, and studied fashion design at the Ha Noi University of Industrial Fine Arts in 2000.

She also graduated from the Burg Giebichensteion University of Art and Design, Halle, in Germany in 2009.

Her works, which have been displayed in individual and collective exhibitions, have been highly appreciated in Viet Nam and abroad.

The exhibition will run till March 21 at the institute located at 24, Tràng Tiền Street, Hà Nội.

On February 11th 2015, the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) and Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) took place at the office of Ministry of Information & Communications (MIC) in Hanoi.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Le Nam Thang, Deputy Minister of MIC, together with the representatives of other MIC departments.

Since its establishment in 2000, VNNIC and the predecessor organizations of KISA, such as KRNIC and NIDA had executed many practical cooperation activities, including an cooperation agreement signed between VNNIC and KRNIC in 2002 which led to the support for management policies and consultancy of VNNIC’s technical system for Internet resource management, as well as the mutual support of both organizations at international fora and activities.

According to Mr. Hoang Minh Cuong, VNNIC’s Director General, the two organizations will base on this MoU to execute a detailed cooperation plan in the management fields of both, such as strengthening the mutual collaboration and discussion on the resource management policies in two countries and in the region, supporting the promotion of IPv6 deployment, developing IDN and IDN email, providing Internet statistics, developing human resources...

Mr. Le Nam Thang, Deputy Minister of MIC, congratulated VNNIC and KISA on the signing of the MoU and expressed his expectation that the organizations will carry on the cooperation plan sufficiently and efficiently.

“In recent years, the Internet has expanded incredibly with such an impressive pace in the region, and contributed greatly to the social and economic development of Vietnam. This also poses many challenges to the management authority of Internet in general, and Internet resources in particular, among which are the IPv4 deployment and IPv6 promotion, IDN development, and information security. We hope that VNNIC, together with other Departments of MIC, will implement the cooperation plan with KISA, with significant achievements", said Mr. Thang.

A set of postal stamps featuring Viet Nam's symbolic architectural heritage and landscapes has just been issued in Paris, France.

The stamps highlight Ha Noi's Opera House, the former royal capital city of Hue's Truong Tien Bridge and Ho Chi Minh City's Nha Rong Wharf.

Among the 14,040 stamps issued, 1,000 will be applied to letters inviting the overseas Vietnamese and French representatives to attend an event to celebrate the coming Lunar New Year to be held by the Vietnamese Embassy on February 19, the first day of the lunar year.

The stamps' release was organised through co-operation between France's national postal service La Poste, the Vietnam Post Corporation and the Vietnamese Embassy.

Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Ngoc Son said the images of French-style architectural structures on the stamps demonstrated the shared history of the two nations, adding that they also helped strengthen cultural exchange and mutual understanding.

Beatrice Roux, chief executive officer of La Poste's International Mail, said the set contributed to French and Vietnamese co-operation and bilateral relations.

La Poste collaborated with Vietnamese partners to publish a Ha Long Bay stamp in 2008 and another featuring physician Alexandre Yersin in 2013.
