Carl W. Greifzu".

Lake Forest is a city located along the shore of Lake Michigan. This city is among the wealthiest cities in the United States. It locates in Lake County, Illinois, United States and is a part of the Chicago metropolitan area and the North Shore.

Lake Forest Bank

On Green Bay road and other avenues, between green of high trees, we see many very big villas with large gardens. The central business district includes a Metra commuter railroad station on the North Line and extends beyond Market Square, providing a mixture of retail, banking, and professional services, as well as restaurants. Market Square is composed of a wide variety of shops and restaurants…

A street in Market Square area, Lake Forest

Many architectures in Lake Forest have North European style. Lake Forest was founded around Lake Forest College and was laid out as a town in 1857 as a stop for travelers making their way to Chicago. The Lake Forest City Hall, designed by Charles Sumner Frost, was completed in 1898 and originally housed the fire department, the Lake Forest Library, and city offices.

Visit Lake Forest city, we feel clean air of pure sunlight and wind, green color of tree, blue color of sky… It is the rhyme of Lake and Forest in this gentle city.

Life & English: "The birthplace of the skyscraper"

Tóm tắt:

Of the ten tallest buildings in the United States, four are located in Chicago.

Of the ten tallest building in the United States, four are located in Chicago.

Chicago is the birthplace of the skyscraper.

The Home Insurance Building, completed in 1885, is regarded as the world's first skyscraper. This building used the steel-frame method, innovated in Chicago. It was originally built with 10 stories, a considerable height in the 1800s, to a height of 138 feet (42 m), making it the tallest building in the world. It was later expanded to 12 stories with a height of 180 feet (55 m). The building was demolished in 1931. New York City then began building skyscrapers as Chicago had done, and the two cities were virtually the only cities in the world with huge skylines for many decades.

Trump Tower in Chicago

Chicago has always played a prominent role in the development of skyscrapers and three past buildings have been the tallest building in the United States. Chicago is the third-largest city in the United States now. This is home to 1,315 completed high-rises, 44 of which stand taller than 600 feet (183 m).

Sears Tower

The tallest building in the city is the 108–story Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower), which rises 1,451 feet (442 m) in the Chicago Loop and was completed in 1974. Sears Tower was the tallest building in the world from its completion, and remained the tallest building in the United States until May 10, 2013 when it was overtaken by One World Trade Center in New York City. The second-, third- and fourth-tallest buildings in Chicago are the Trump International Hotel & Tower, the Aon Center and the John Hancock Center, respectively.

People honor this day with parades, fireworks and celebrations.

The 30th president, Calvin Coolidge, was born on July 4. Several early presidents of the United States died on July 4. They include John Adams, the second president, and Thomas Jefferson, the third president, both died on the country’s 50th anniversary of Independence Day. James Monroe, the fifth U.S. president, died on July 4, 1831. “Patriotic to the end” was a sentence about them.

Americans really love fireworks. On the occation of Independence Day, fireworks are performed at many places, including public park and familial party. The American Pyrotechnic Association reported that Americans spent $825 million on fireworks last year. Happy Independence Day!

Life & English: "The greatest American architect of all time"

Tóm tắt:

He was the architect of the famous architecture Fallingwater, which has been called "the best all-time work of American architecture".

Frank Lloyd Wright (8 June 1867 - 9 April 1959) was an American architect, interior designer, writer, and educator, who designed more than 1,000 structures, 532 of which were completed. He was the architect of the famous architecture Fallingwater , which has been called "the best all-time work of American architecture".

Fallingwater - the best all-time work of American architecture

Wright believed in designing structures that were in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. Fallingwater, one of Wright's most famous private residences, completed 1937, was built for Mr. and Mrs. Edgar J. Kaufmann Sr., at Mill Run, Pennsylvania. Constructed over a 30-foot waterfall, it was designed according to Wright's desire to place the occupants close to the natural surroundings. The house was intended to be more of a family getaway, rather than a live-in home. The construction is a series of cantilevered balconies and terraces, using limestone for all verticals and concrete for the horizontals.

Wright was a leader of the Prairie Schoolmovement of architecture and developed the concept of the Usonian home in Broadacre City, his unique vision for urban planning in the United States. In addition to his houses, Wright designed original and innovative offices, churches, schools, skyscrapers, hotels, museums and other structures. He often designed interior elements for these buildings as well, including furniture and stained glass.

1966 U.S. postage stamp honoring Frank Lloyd Wright

Wright wrote 20 books and many articles and was a popular lecturer in the United States and in Europe. Wright was recognized in 1991 by the American Institute of Architects as "the greatest American architect of all time".

Las Vegas - City and Algorithm

Tóm tắt:

Las Vegas is the name of this city, also is name of an algorithm…

When told about Las Vegas, everybody always thought about a large casino. In fact, Las Vegas had more things. Came to Las Vegas, travellers can visit simulations of famous places of the world. A street of French style with a model of the Eiffel tower locates in the centre area of Las Vegas. Magnificent and bright buildings look like palaces in Andersen’s stories, they locate near high Egypt pillars with ideogram. The little statue of Libertas was standing not far from there. An artificial river was flowing between streets and buildings, shops and hotels. Boatmen has been wearing clothes of European 18th century as boatmen in Venice, Italy… Although, Las Vegas noon outdoor weather was very hot but indoor streets with old European style was cool. Nice air, blue sky, white cloud, road of flagstones, café, shops, hotels…all connected in a system.

Las Vegas

In Las Vegas, every hotel was every special design and every specific style. This hotel was figure of a multicolors tropical island, that hotel had old Greece style with very nice statues, other hotel was a mysterious Arab castle… The common ground of all hotels here were a very large casino. Casinos of big hotels were built under ground floor. Many game machines and gambling dens were disposed in the ground floor of these hotels. In the ground floor, casinos were lighted all days and nights. Therefore Las Vegas was called “light city”. Las Vegas was city of casinos and “Lost Wages” was other nickname of this city.

Las Vegas is the name of this city, also is name of an algorithm. It was Las Vegas algorithm. Hardly imagine that the city of casinos and games was birthplace of this complex algorithm. However, someone could find a relation between this algorithm with rule of games, win or fail. It could be performed in the running game-machines of this beautiful city. Las Vegas was built in early 20 century. At first, the city had only one small train station and few buildings in desert. Although desert weather was very hard, Las Vegas was built. A stunted area became a stunning city. The city was beautiful like paradise in legend. It was the “Great Algorithm”.

The oldest communication service in Calico Ghost Town

Tóm tắt:

We saw the Post at a corner in Calico Ghost Town. Wow. It was a special memory of Post, the oldest communication service.

Calico Ghost Town was a special interesting visiting place in the US West region. More hundred years ago, the town of Calico was bustling with prospectors searching for its mineral riches. Silver was king here and the Calico Mining district became one of the richest in the state. Calico town was born in March 1881 with 40 people. Next year, 1882, Calico population increased 7 times to 300 people. Mining increased very fast. Calico could boast boom-town status, producing 86 milion usd in silver, 45 milion usd in borax. While highest business, 1887, Calico had 1200 inhabitants. Next two years, Calico population changed: decreased to 500 residents in 1888 and increased to 800 residents in 1889. In its golden age, this town had 22 saloons.

Calico Ghost Town

However, after silver and borax mining became exhausted, inhabitants removed to other places. After solutions to keep the town survive but inhabitants were very little: 10 residents in 1951, 15 residents in 1981 and then 8 residents in 2001, Administration decided that Calico town became a visiting place. They called donations from supporters to keep this town like as memorial of past time when people came West to find gold. The town was named “Ghost Town” to attract tourist’s imagination. However we did not have opportunity to see any ghost in this town to satisfy our imagination. The reason could be that we came Calico at noon when desert area in the West American region was very hot, higher 40oC temperature, maybe all ghosts stayed at shelters to avoid sun and hot weather. Along main road of Calico town, we visited houses of hundred-years-old style. Visitors could image about old West American people by men-mannequins with gun in belt, felt hat, jeans and womenmannequins with chignon, needleworks beside window. Music from old bar, old shop but only tables and chairs stayed there; no customers, no seller, nobody.

Telegraph box in a Museum

We saw the Post at a corner in Calico Ghost Town. Wow. It was a special memory of Post, the oldest communication service. In other museums in US, visitors always could find models of the post or telegraph box at a corner of the museum. Information and communications services are being very important for life and society from more hundred years to now.
