(ICTPress) – Congratulate young readers and young writers on Children’s Day 1-6.

Hi. My name is Khanh. I’m twelve years old. Now I am a student at Vietnam-Angieria secondary school. I’m in sixth grade. I have many friends at school. But my best friend is My. She’s twelve years old and in sixth grade too.

We met at school when I was six years old. We are now best friends. We both like listening to music, learning English, and reading books. We like novels, comics, and poems. Sometimes we enjoy playing badminton in my garden. I remember when I was six years old. My friends and I played hide and seek. I ran to find a hiding place, but I tumbled down. My friends saw me fall, but they didn’t pick me up. They laughed at me. But My saw me fall, and she picked me up. We became best friends, and we will stay best friends forever.

(ICTPress) - Our boat moved swiftly down the river and came to a junction of waterways. In front of my eyes, a very large expanse of water with many small boats and many large ships appeared. This was the floating market of Cai Rang.

In the morning, as sunlight spread across the river, we left Ninh Kieu Park in Can Tho City.  We boarded one of the tourist boats that rushed toward the floating market of Cai Rang. The boat passed over large areas of waving water. The wind was wild and powerful. On both sides of the river, green trees spread long and far. Houses dotted the area.  We could see a few petrol stations. Some faced the road to sell petrol to cars and motorbikes. Others faced the river to sell petrol to boats and ships. 

Our boat moved swiftly down the river and came to a junction of waterways. In front of my eyes, a very large expanse of water with many small boats and many large ships appeared. This was the floating market of Cai Rang.

Here, there, and everywhere, boats carried all the fruits of the Mekong delta. Here was a boat full of dark green watermelons. Over there was a ship loaded with many bananas, yellow points scattered in green. The coconut boats were light green. Other ships were bright yellow; they carried pineapple. Every boat or ship had a long stick extending from it. A few pieces of fruit hung from the tip of each sick like a flag or signboard telling you what the boat carried.  They were honest and lively signs.

Our driver dodged a couple large fruit ships and drove our little tourist boat into the empty waterway between.  This was a good opportunity for photographs, especially close-ups.

Suddenly, the scent of coffee, like a perfume, drifted about our boat. Where was the coffee?  We looked around.  The perfume was from a small boat nearby loaded with coffee. It was a mobile café on the waterway! Inside the boat had cups, glasses, spoons, thermoses, small gas cookers…enough for many customers. On a large tray, about twenty coffee pots were brewing. This was the source of the strong coffee perfume. Wind blew it across the river.  The café boat had no long stick or any kind of signboard.  The scent of coffee was an attractive enough advertisement.

Salesgirls on another boat waved to travelers and offered teas, juices and fruits. One girl made a bevel cut into a coconut, put a straw in it, then invited us to taste it. The liquid was very fresh and natural. The tasty coconut milk softened the sun's heat at noon on the way back to NinhKieu Park.

Good morning everybody. Today I’m going to tell you about the history of pizza.

In 1889 Queen Margherita Teresa Giovanni of Italy visited Naples. The people of Naples made a special food for her. Pizza! It's made from flour, tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and basil. Pizza is an oven-baked, flat, round bread typically topped with a tomato sauce, cheese.

From Naples, pizza made its way around the world and became popular in many places. At the turn of the twentieth century, pizza went to America. In 1905, a person named Gennaro Lombardi opened an American style pizza store. This new style of pizza, which included many different toppings, quickly became popular in many countries of the world.

Now let's talk about Vietnam. Here pizza has many styles. Vietnam imports both the American and the Italian style of pizza. Normally we make pizza from meat, sausage, and tuna. More expensive pizza is made from pork and salmon. You can eat pizza anywhere, anytime. You can call the people at the restaurant, and they will deliver it to you right way.

“Life & English” – the new section of ICTPress

Dear Readers

A journalist’s life is certainly a journey. A journalist is always traveling about and learning new things. English is important “luggage.” It allows us a greater range of communication. It allows us more friends and greater knowledge. Through English, the world opens up, and people move closer together.    

So now ICTPress opens a new section:   “Life & English.”  This is done with  the cooperation of writer Daniel McIntyre and Wider World Language Center (http://widerworld.vn).  

This section includes short simple articles from students who are exploring English and attempting to develop their writing style. Many articles are penned by young authors, some very young indeed. Some of our authors are not so young, but their experience with English gives them a fresh new world perspective - a perspective we want to share with you.
